

Kelly Susanne Hutchinson went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2025, at the age of 61. She was born on May 22, 1963, to Rolonda Jane (Walker) Steele and the late James Darrell Steele of Charleston, West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her father, James “Homer” Steele, and her in-laws, Louie and Betty Hutchinson. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Michael Hutchinson, her mother, Rolonda Steele, siblings, Juanita “Spunky” Spinks (Rick), Michael Steele (Lisa), and “adopted” brother, John Searight. Children, Timi Pate (Michael), Kaleb Lovejoy (Allie), Mikaela Kiser (Josh), and Maggie Hutchinson. Grandchildren, Liam Fike, Auria Fike, Oliver Pate, Callie Kiser, and two expected granddaughters.
Surviving sister-in-law, Leslie Blackhurst (Bruce), brothers-in-law Richard Hutchinson, and Randall Hutchinson (Kim) and many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was a graduate of DuPont High School, and her undergraduate degree was from West Virginia Institute of Technology where she studied education. She then went on to continue her education at Duke University, North Carolina State, and the University of North Carolina. She taught elementary school science and impacted many students’ lives through tutoring and substitute teaching.
Kelly was an avid basketball and volleyball player who later supported women’s athletics in all capacities. Her interests included crafting, quilting, painting, cross stitching, card making, and scrapbooking. She took pride in her artistry and that her works were mainly given back into the family and the people she loved.
She was an excellent cook and loved baking. Although she faced many health challenges throughout her life, she maintained a positive outlook and handled each hurdle with grace. She enjoyed taking trips with her lifelong best friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and she especially loved her grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Barrett Jordan officiating. Following the service, cremation will be honored.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 12:00 Noon until service time on Saturday at the Funeral Home.
