Mary H. Perdue, age 87, of Kiawah Island, SC, died peacefully Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at the home of her daughter. She was born November 22, 1930, in Smithers WV, daughter of the late Durrette Hayslett and Smedley Hayslett.
On May 1, 1953, she married the love of her life, Carl R. “Bob” Perdue who survives. Also surviving are her three children, son, Robert R. “Randy” Perdue (Suzanne) of Smithers WV; son, Carl Andrew “Andy” Perdue (Kim) of Iron Mountain WY, and daughter, Melody Leigh Garcia (Joe) of Johns Island SC; four grandsons, Joshua Perdue (Joannie) of Oak Hill WV; Jacob Perdue (Aimee) of Moncks Corner SC; Chance Perdue (Kelley) of Sewickley PA; Casey Perdue of Rolling Hills WY; Joseph Garcia III and Nicholas Garcia of Charleston SC; two granddaughters, Melissa Meeks (Jason) of Hurricane WV; and Sara Price (Chris) of Canton GA; eight great grandchildren, Alivia Meeks, Rilynn Price, Kellan Price, Easton Perdue, Greenlee Perdue, Grayson Perdue, Vera Perdue, and Cathleen Perdue. She is also survived by her aunt, Mary Margaret “Joann” Kincaid of Smithers WV. Her cousins, Ruth Ann Bulmer, Virginia Hines, and Judy Kay Black. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Deborah Perdue, her aunt Ruth “Bobbie” Clendenin; uncles Sam Flint and Earl Bryant.
Mary was a long-time resident of St. Albans WV and during that time served as a leader of her son Randy’s Cub Scout Pack 48; a volunteer during her son, Andy’s Little League baseball years at Billy Dunn Field; a member of the Syndicate Park Women’s Club; and a member of St. Peters United Methodist Church. Mary always cherished the years raising her family in St. Albans and enjoyed the close friendship of Joann Hensley, Kathleen Ferrell, Francie Quick, and Theda Payne all of whom preceded her in death. In later years, Mary and Bob were owners of Perdue’s IGA and Hardware in Campbells Creek, resided there for many years and contributed to the community in numerous ways. Mary and Bob enjoyed their retirement years living in Kiawah Island SC.
A visitation with family and friends will be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at Stevens and Grass Funeral Home, Malden with the service beginning at 2:00 PM with her grandson, Reverend Chance Perdue officiating. Entombment will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park, London, WV.
