Born on August 2, 1944, Bud was the son of French and Bernice Collison. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served his country before beginning his long and fulfilling career as a contractor and engineer, eventually retiring from Truist/One Valley Bancorp. Known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and determination, he earned the respect and friendship of those who worked alongside him.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bud was a talented carpenter and master woodworker. He found great joy in creating with his hands—building furniture, crafting keepsakes, and sharing his skills with others. His artistry and craftsmanship will remain as lasting reminders of his creativity and care.
Bud’s life was guided by his Christian faith, which gave him strength, purpose, and peace. He was a devoted member of Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, where his faith, kindness, and generosity touched many lives.
He is survived by his children, Ellen Collison, Andy Collison (Kelly), Karen Sodaro (Deron), and Janet Crabtree (Todd); sisters, Jean Secrest, Alene Hedrick, Lois Lanham-Loftis (Don), Jenny Sue Pennington, and Martha Meadows (Jim), Kay Daugherty and Janie Damron; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, French R. Collison and Bernice (Given) Collison; seven siblings; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, at Loudendale Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Randy Ledsome officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery.
Bud will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his faith, love, and craftsmanship will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
