

Ronald Edward “Rooster” Wentz 83 of Winfield, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on the morning of February 19, 2015 at CAMC Memorial Division after a long courageous battle with cancer. Ronald was born on January 15, 1932 in Putney, WV. He was the son of the late Harold and Thelma Wentz of Campbell’s Creek. He was nicknamed Rooster at birth by his Father. He was a graduate of DuPont High School Class of 1949. Ronald served four years in the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne division during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from service in 1953. Ronald began his 40 year career with American Electric Power Company at the Kyger Creek Power Plant in Cheshire, OH. He was transferred several times throughout the AEP system and worked at the Clinch River Power Plant in Cleveland, VA, Big Sandy Power Plant in Louisa, KY, and Cardinal Power Plant in Steubenville, OH. He returned to West Virginia in 1970 to start up the John Amos Power Plant in Winfield, WV where he was Operations Superintendent. He retired from the Clinch River Power Plant in 1993 as the Assistant Plant Manager. Upon retirement he remained active by working at Edgewood Country Club and served 3600 hours working for Disabled Veterans in the Voluntary Transport Network. Ronald was an avid golfer and die hard WVU fan. Throughout his life he was involved in many other activities and organizations such as having been a licensed realtor in the state of WV and a mason in the Lebanon Virginia Lodge. Most importantly, Ronald was a family man. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a selfless person and his main joy in life was making his family happy. He continuously supported and encouraged them in all their endeavors. He was a man of integrity and his life motto was “When it’s too rough for everybody else it’s just right for me”. He loved the Lord and attended King’s River Worship Center in Saint Albans, WV. Preceded in death by his son Ronnie Lee Wentz on June 10, 2010, his parents, his brother Harold Lee Wentz, and sister Joan Morrison. Surviving Ronald is his beloved wife of 61 years Viva Mae Jessie Wentz of Winfield, daughter Christi Ann Wentz at home, and granddaughter Anna Alicia Wentz at home, siblings Bobby Wentz (Beulah), Betty Moles, Marsha Keller (Roger), and Myla Norman (David), all of Charleston, WV and sister, Patricia Cox of Dacula, GA. Ronald is also survived by Connie Hunt whom he helped raise, and neighbor and friend, Kelli Harrah. He is also survived by his feline baby girl Maggie Mae. The family would like to thank Shane Wilson and Jean Moore of the SICU unit at CAMC Memorial for making his final hours peaceful with their kindness and compassionate care. Funeral Services will be held Monday February 23, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Point Lick Gospel Tabernacle with Rev. Andy Colagrosso, Rev. Larry Campbell and Rev. Roy Moles officiating. Burial will follow at New Antioch Cemetery, Red House. A visitation with family and friends will held Sunday February 22, 2015 from 6 to 9 PM at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden and one hour prior to the service at the Church.
