He was currently employed at Kanawha River Terminals, where he had worked for the past 33 years. Throughout those years, he made many great friendships. He was an Army veteran and served from 1966 till 1968.
He was born on January 13, 1947, to the late Reve and Ruby Bartley. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Barbara Bartley; his pride and joy, his daughter, Hope Beasley; brothers, Jody, Jerry, William “Little June,” Junior, and Claude; sisters, Drema “Cookie” and Emogene; brother-in-law ,Carl Crews; and sisters-in-law, Janet Bartley, Ellen Smith, Lou Davis, Vickie Walker, and Robin Thacker.
Roy enjoyed taking care of his family. He was always planning a family vacation to Pigeon Forge. He loved to cook and made sure everyone was fed. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson—whether it was a trip to Lowe’s, getting a milkshake, or stopping at a car lot to look at vehicles. If you knew Roy, then you knew his love for new vehicles. He cherished his time with Jakob because he was truly his best friend. There was never a more caring and giving person than Roy. He deeply missed his wife, Barbara, and daughter, Hope, for many years, and we know their reunion in heaven was beautiful.
He is survived by his grandson and greatest blessing, Jakob Beasley, and Jakob’s wife, Brooklyn, whom he loved as his own, of Campbell’s Creek; his son-in-law, Jimmy Beasley, of Campbell’s Creek; his brother, David (Sue) Bartley of Culloden; and his sister, Judy Crews of Campbell’s Creek. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Diana and Betty Bartley; brothers-in-law, Gary Smith, Glen Davis, and James Thacker; a host of nieces and nephews he loved dearly; and his best friends, Jamie Morris and Ross Crowder. He had earned a variety of loving titles from various loved ones, like the title of “Papaw” from Ruby and Levi Carrow, who thought the world of him. As well as the title of “Uncle Roy” from Whitney Carrow, who he loved dearly.
