Ruth Ann Fitzgerald of St Albans, West Virginia, passed away peacefully June 9, 2026, after a difficult battle with cancer at Hubbard Hospice House.
Ruth Ann was born in Montgomery, West Virginia, November 29, 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rupert Karlton and Ruth Kelley Fitzgerald; along with brothers, John Rupert and Karl Ray Fitzgerald.
Survivors include nephew, Jess Lee Fitzgerald of Belle, West Virginia; and nieces, Margaret Fitzgerald Laishley of Huntington, West Virginia, and Rebekah Fitzgerald Peters of Dayton, Tennessee; along with their sons and daughters.
Ruth Ann had a long career with Union Carbide in South Charleston.
Holidays were often spent at the home of Jess Fitzgerald, where she enjoyed the cooking of Donnie Barton, and graciously accepted leftovers. She was loved by her cats, that numbered into the thousands (LOL). They came to her at all ages, colors, shapes and health. All were spoiled!
Despite growing health challenges, Ruth Ann remained fiercely independent. However, she was fortunate to have a friend, Anita Roberts, who showed unwavering kindness. She acted as a caregiver by feeding the cats and taking Ruth Ann to Dr. appointments. Anita was always there when needed, providing a steady presence.
Ruth Ann requested to be cremated with no funeral service. She will be laid to rest June 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., beside her father, at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, West Virginia, with a short graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the KCHA Animal Shelter, 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, West Virginia 25311, or a charity of your choice.
Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden is in charge of arrangements.
