Shelvia Jean Wentz

Shelvia was born in Reed, WV on August 16, 1938, to the late Charles and Freda Bass Sword. She was a member of Fair Haven Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Eugene Wentz; sister, Nora Smith; brothers, Charles, Elmer, Leslie and Thomas Sword.

Shelvia is survived by her children, Eugene (Lura) Wentz Jr. of South Charleston, Denise (Vickie) Wentz of Frankfort, KY, Lisa (Jerry) Melton of Elkview and Stephen (Melissa) Wentz of Kenna; brother, Everett (Velma) Sword of Campbells Creek; brother-in-law, Danny (Becky) Wentz of Campbells Creek; grandchildren, Sandy, Jesse, Danielle, Dalton, Delani, Deandra and JR.; great grandchildren, Kiara, Jay, Grayden, Caylee, Destiny, Braelyn, Cayden, Isaac and Leila; and special nieces and nephew.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday October 29, 2025, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Corey Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

A visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Kanawha Hospice Care 1606 Kanawha Blvd W. Charleston, WV 25387.
