Steven Allen “Steve” Wood, 61, of Hernshaw, gained his wings on Thursday, April 27, 2017, after a short illness. Steve was born January 4, 1956 in Charleston to Eldion “Dude” and Clara Ann Pauley Wood. He loved Southern Gospel music and sang many years with his wife, Linda, brother, Randy and his dad, Dude, who made up the Songsmen and Linda Gospel Singers. Steve was a member of Lens Creek Church of the Nazarene where he was the Praise and Worship/song Leader. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Meadows Wood; daughter, Stephanie Pettry; granddaughter, Josie Wood; parents, Eldion and Clara Wood; brothers, Robert “Bobby” and Randy Wood; and sister, Sandi Wymer. Steve is survived by son, Christopher Wood; grandsons, Joshua Wood and Jaxson Bowles, along with his mother, Amy Bowles, all of Charleston; brother, Jerry (Linda) Wood of Hanahan, South Carolina; sisters, Connie (Donnie) Robinson of Ligonier, Indiana, Rite (Bud) Devins of Rand and Kaye Tyler of Chelyan; former son-in-law, Chuck Pettry of Whitesville; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins whom he adored. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings, WVU and NASCAR racing. He loved bowling and he bowled on many leagues throughout Kanawha Valley. Steve never met a stranger and could bring a smile to anyone’s face with his corny jokes and crazy sayings. He loved being the Master of Ceremony’s at various events and family functions. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Tom Burnside and the Rev. Eddie Withrow officiating. Steve will always hold a special place in our hearts. I can't help but think of great times we had growling up and all the times Steve spent at our house and the pranks my dad, Jack Carte pulled on them, like rigging the water hose to spray them in our front yard while camping out, and all the times we used to pass eggs in a circle in the middle of the street, and playing spotlights which the Belle Police was in on. Wow memories, and now those will keep us remembering you until the day we all join you you and our families again. They always said God had a great sense of humor and I am sure He hasn't stopped laughing since Steve entered into Heaven. Love to all the family and this isn't goodbye but just see you soon. Love, Tony, Debbie Petry and The Lordsmen

I extend my sincere condolences to the family and pray for all who are saddened during this time. I admired Steve's God given talent for singing and will fondly remember his spontaneous sense of humor that adorned his conversations. Rest in God's arms my friend.
