Susan Irene (Propps) Atkins, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully Tuesday August 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for all who knew her.
Susan was born in White Sulphur Springs on February 26, 1955, to the late Vernon Henry and Frances Fay Simmons Propps. She was a retired Assistant Director of Operations for Kanawha County Assessors Office with 30 years of service. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her memory will live on through the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Margarette J. Propps, Martha J. Smith, Vernon L. Propps, and Charles D. Propps all of Hernshaw; and her nephew, Jason F. Propps of Beckley; mother and father-in-law, Susie and Sybil Atkins of Ashford.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Gerald Dewayne Atkins; three children, Craig Atkins (Jennifer) of Ashford, Travis Atkins of Charleston, and Monica Osborne (Christopher) of Charleston. She was a loving grandmother to Alex Atkins (Arielle) of St. Albans, Madison Atkins of Huntington, Levi Osborne and Lexi Osborne both of Charleston; great grandchildren, Ellie Grey Atkins and Declan Dewayne Atkins. She is also survived by her brothers, Glen Propps of Covington, VA, and James Propps of Charleston; sister, Christina Bostic (Curtis) of White Sulphur Springs; and two very special nephews, Cordel Bostic (Alli Sears) of St. Albans and Colton Bostic of White Sulphur Springs who held a particularly dear place in her heart; brother-in-law, Elmo Atkins of Nitro; sister-in-law, Elaine Britt of Ashford.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday August 15, 2026, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with Pastor Mike Long officiating. Burial will follow at Atkins Cemetery, Ashford.
A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
