He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Pat, his loving children; sons, Shawn and wife April, Kevin and wife Rhonda, Brian and wife Cari and daughter, Mary Osborne. He is also survived by his 11 cherished grandchildren and his precious great-grandson as well as his 2 nieces.
Alva proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy aboard the USS Sandborne. He was the owner and operator of Ocean Cleaning for many years. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Ocean County College for the Building & Grounds Department as well as handling various duties in the Athletic Department.
While serving in the Navy, he played the trumpet in the Navy Band, after his honorable discharge, he played the trumpet in a "Big Band", playing mostly at the Denville Shack in Denville, NJ.
Alva was an avid tennis player, he also was a big sports fan, following the Mets and the Giants.
His time spent with his family and friends is what matter the most to him. He will be missed by all.
