Anneliese Glusa, 88, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away on February 21, 2021. She was born in Zerbst Germany and immigrated to the United States in the mid 60's. She came to America on a sponsorship to work as a governess.
In 1978, Anneliese and Rosemarie Walsh co-founded the Somerset Hills Montessori School in Basking Ridge, NJ. After Ms. Walsh's departure, Anneliese continued to oversee the school. The school started in a local church basement in Basking Ridge, and then re-located to nearby Cedar Hills School. After a brief stay there, SHMS moved to Madisonville Road in Basking Ridge, where it stills resides today.
Anneliese loved children; she had a special touch with them. She could hold their attention as she spoke to them. The children in turn loved her back. Besides her love of children, she enjoyed cooking, especially making German specialties. She would invite her friends to dinner every Sunday. She was also an avid knitter and crocheter.
She is survived by her two sisters who live in Germany, Gisela Stein and Marianne Laue and her many loving nieces and nephews, also living in Germany.
The Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ was entrusted with the private arrangements.
