Arlene P Harlfinger
August 9, 1941 – March 23, 2021
Arlene Patricia (Hedden) Harlfinger, 79 of Ship Bottom, NJ passed away peacefully on March 23, 2021 with her family by her side. Arlene was born in East Orange, NJ, the daughter of the late Irvin W. and Mae Hedden. Arlene was raised in Long Beach Island with her family. When Arlene was in 5th grade she met William Harlfinger and that was the beginning of a beautiful love story. She married her best friend and love of her life in 1960. In 1971 she and her family moved to Ship Bottom to the home her husband built. There they resided and lived a wonderful life until his death in 2001.
Arlene was a communicant of St. Francis Parish. She took great pride in raising her family and spending her days as a dedicated stay at home mom until her children were grown. She then embarked on a career of her own working for Bank of America for over 20 years.
Arlene was a loving wife, and mother of 4 children, and a devoted grandmother. Arlene’s greatest joys centered around her children and grandchildren. If any of them were participating in a performance, sporting event or social activity, she was there. A highlight in her sporting attendance was her trips to Penn State University where she was surrounded by her family to support and cheer for her grandson on the field.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years, William Harlfinger and her beloved brothers Irvin P. and Walter Hedden, and her sister Joan Matejka. She is survived by her 4 children Linda Gesicki and husband John, West Creek NJ; Donna Gesicki and husband Mike, Manahawkin NJ; Kathleen Caldwell and husband Tim, Acworth Georgia and her son William Harlfinger, Ship Bottom NJ; Ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to the visitation which will be held at the Thomas L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard drive in Manahawkin on Tuesday March 30, 2021 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.
A private funeral and burial will be held by the family.

I have so many wonderful memories of her & I working together, they were truly the best years. She could make me crazy & laughing so hard at the same time. She will be dearly missed. Oh, how she loved her family & missed her Bill, everyday. I am a better person, for knowing her. 💕

I can't even begin to express my condolences to the entire family. Arlene was such a joy to have as a patient. We spent many visits together going over more just her medical care. She always had stories or funny anecdotes about someone or something but what she always talked about most was her children and grandchildren. Her face would light up when she spoke of them. I'm so honored to have gotten to know Arlene and many of her family members. Heaven has gained another angel and I'd like to think that I have another guardian angel on my side. May you rest in peace Arlene and keep watching over your family from above!!!

I remember my aunt Arlene as a loving, caring woman who loved her husband and family more than almost anyone I’ve ever met. She will be greatly missed by all the people she touched in her lifetime, most of all her family. I will always remember her, and her laughter, and how much she loved my parents. My deepest condolences to her family.

Our deepest sympathy to. Linda,Donna,Kate, Bill, and families. We’ve been friends with Arlene for over 40 years. The last few years have been very special- talking and laughing out front so often. When we were in PA we spoke often on the phone. Our special time was watching the Penn State football games together virtually. We would text each other excitedly whenever high
points happened forPenn State. Arlene was a very dear friend and wonderful lady. We shall miss her.
