Clifford Isaksen, 88, beloved husband of Elaine Isaksen for 63 years much adored father to Andy and Danny, cherished Grandfather (Pop Pop) to Chandler, Camryn, Brooke, Rachel, and Luke passed peacefully on February 17, 2024, at his residence in the Terraces at Seacrest in Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Clifford was survived by his brother Robert Isaksen of Hudson, MI and sister Janet MacElroy of Fleming Island, FL along with several nieces and nephews. Clifford was predeceased by his wife Elaine, his father, Ingart Isaksen and mother, Gertrude Steinersen-Isaksen.
Clifford is the first son of his family born in the U.S. as his father and family immigrated to the US from Norway in 1921. He was born and raised in Staten Island, NY until the age of 15 when he moved to upstate NY in Cambridge. There he lived on a 78-acre working farm with his family which he held deep fond memories of. He developed life-long friendships in that farming community that he valued highly. After graduating high school, he moved to Manahawkin in 1955 to work for his Uncle Ed Steinersen as a plumber. In 1956 he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served for 6 years. He met Elaine in Manahawkin and they married in 1959. During that time, he began his career at New Jersey Bell as a lineman and service technician. He retired in 1995 after 35 years.
Clifford had several hobbies and talents. His passion was woodworking and Shotgun Sports that included Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays. His youth spent on a farm honed his sharpshooting skills and while in the Army, he attained the level of “Expert” with a rifle. He was a master craftsman and was known for his woodworking skills. His legacy will live on with the tables, shelves, doll cradles, doll houses, bird houses and Adirondack chairs to name a few that he built and gifted to all of us. He had a well-organized and meticulous workshop in his basement that he loved spending time in. He enjoyed shotgun sports at various clubs in South Jersey where he made several friends.
Clifford was a hardworking, Christian, man whose unwavering commitment was to provide for his family. He loved his children, his brother and sister, and all his extended family very much. He had a decades-long tradition of speaking with his brother, Robert, every Saturday morning at 7:00 AM. If you were to ask either Clifford or Robert what they talked about, they would probably say nothing. It was just two brothers talking nonsense and making jokes. Clifford adored his wife Elaine and now he is at peace with her in heaven. The family will be holding private services.
