Donald P. Locasto passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at Southern Ocean County Medical Center in Manahawkin NJ, four days shy of his 80th birthday Don was born on August 11, 1939 in Newark NJ to Patrick and Jane (Farley) Locasto. He graduated Kearny High School in 1958. He married Eileen Williams (deceased 1995) on January 11, 1962. Later married Elaine (Zorns) Locasto in 2004. Don worked for Worthington Pump in Harrison NJ for many years and later retired from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in 1996. Big Don, as he affectionately became known, was the the first batter in Kearny Little League’s history. He continued his love of baseball by coaching Kearny Federal for many years. Among his many interests he was a member of the New Jersey Football Association, an ASA Softball umpire and a member of the Kearny Board of Education. His most recent involvement with the Italian American Club in Manahawkin brought him much joy. He is survived by his wife Elaine (Zorns) Locasto, children Donald A. and Peggy (Warren), Linda and George McKenna, Frank and Keisha (Volpe) and grandchildren Kaitlyn, Kyle, Christina, Kayla, Katie, Tess, Amber and Nicholas. He was the sibling of Patrick J. Locasto and Diane Leto. He was also fortunate to have 4 step children, 8 step grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that contributions be made to the Italian American Social and Civic Association (IAC) PO Box 632, Manahawkin NJ 08050. A visitation will be held at the Thos. L Shinn Funeral home 10 Hilliard Drive Manahawkin N.J. on Monday Aug 12 from 2-6PM with a funeral service at 5:30 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Cross cemetery on Tuesday Aug 13 at 12 Noon. Condolences may be sent to our web site at www.shinnfuneralhome.com

I was happy to be able to visit with Don on July 21 with some high school friends. Don was a great guy and full of cheer. He will be greatly missed . I pray that he is received in heaven with all just rewards. I share the grief of his family and hope they remain strong. I have made a donation the IAC in his name. Richard B izar

Remembering Donnie is pleasant we grew up together on the same block Forest street when I was little I always wanted to be a boy like Donnie if he climbed a tree I climbed a tree I adored him as my big cousin and we shared a love for the Yankees I’ll never forget you Donnie Rest In Peace

So sorry to hear of cousin Donnie's passing. I will always remember him and the memories from our childhood and throughout the years. So glad cousin Carol and I had the chance to visit with him and his lovely wife Elaine a few years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. RIP Donnie, God rest your soul!
