March 30th, 1944 - July 12th, 2022
It is with great sorrow to share that Edward (Ed) J. Johnson, a light to so many in the community, passed away on Tuesday, July 12th at 8:56am. The time holds significance, as this year marks 56 years married to his lovely wife and best friend, Carol Johnson.
Ed is the son of Edward M. Johnson and Marie Rosanio. He has 3 children: Edward, Dean, and Sherri Johnson. Ed is survived by his wife, Carol Turano Johnson, two children, Sherri and Edward Johnson and his daughter in law, Pauline Johnson, as well as his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Richard Longo, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernadette and Louis Grasso, in addition to 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Ed started a local Plumbing and Heating business from the ground up, and has helped so many people along the way. 53 years later, his son, Edward Johnson now owns and operates the company. He certainly set an example of what hard work and determination can achieve, but most importantly, he showed all who were lucky to know him how far kindness and humanity can go. From laying on the floor so he can play with his grandkids to driving up and down the East coast to move them into their college dorm rooms, Ed was a true family man - he never missed a beat. If you were one of the lucky ones who knew him, you know he spent years of his life on a boat, a fisherman at heart. But what many might not know is how special those fishing days where to his family. He would spend hours talking to his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, teaching us about life. Little did we know then, how those afternoons on the water, would be the greatest childhood memories of which we keep closest to our hearts - full of life lessons, laughter, love, and happiness. From making bear noises at the park while he took us on our annual road trip to Florida to sharing his YouTube cooking recipes with his grandchildren, he was always making his loved ones laugh and putting our happiness first. He was truly selfless in all that he did. Ed proudly served in the Army Reserve during the 1967 Newark Riots. He remains one of the most humble and kindest souls this community was blessed to have witnessed and known. Ed served his community and his family his entire life. We shall celebrate him and his legacy by doing what he did best: supporting others and spreading an abundance of light and love to every person in his path. Edward J. Johnson will be deeply missed and cherished by his loved ones and those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
