April 6, 1945, to June 7, 2026
Fred Mahlon Harvey of Little Egg Harbor, NJ went home to the Lord on Sunday, June 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was predeceased by his parents Charles Reynold Harvey (1911-1980) and Iloe Elsie (Talcott) Harvey (1910-1993); brother, Charles Reynold Harvey, Jr. (1936-2024); brother-in-law, Robert Finlaw (1928-1989); nephew, Kevin C. Harvey (1958-2025); and mother-in-law Lena (Boriosi; Rondelli) Roscoe (1923 to 2011).
He is survived by his wife of 61 Years, Cecilia (Rondelli) Harvey; his sons Jeff Harvey and Bryan Harvey (wife Wendy); grandson Bryan M Harvey; sister, Essene Jeanette Finlaw and brother, Gahrad L. Harvey and his precious cat Smokey.
Inspired by his father’s tenure as a Chemistry teacher, Fred achieved a bachelor’s degree in education at Bloomsburg State College in PA. He began his career as a US History high school teacher; upon becoming a proud father of two he was motivated to transition to a career in business to better provide for his family. Following a few short stints in retail sales he landed an opportunity with American Express in Travel Related Services where he excelled achieving the very prestigious American Eagle award, twice, ultimately retiring as Director of Sales.
During his time at Bloomsburg State College where he met the love of his life, Cecilia, he worked as a DJ endearingly known for his slogan “Get sailin’ with Mahlon. Get ready with Freddie,” which would often be followed by a dedication to Cecilia.
While Fred was ever full of life and always on the go, his favorite pass times were spending quality time with his family and pets. Possessing a true passion for our great nation, he took every opportunity he could from his busy career to vacation with his family at historic sites, while also always carving out time to attend his boys various scholastic and athletic events. He also had a zeal for hunting, his 1940 Super Deluxe Chevrolet originally purchased new by his father, karate (where he achieved a Black Belt in Gojuryu), guitar, piano, collecting various things and many more hobbies and interests, including an insatiable sense of humor.
In his retirement, Fred continued to devote his time to his family, pets, hobbies and volunteering to serve his country. He and his loving wife Cecilia enjoyed going out to eat, playing penny slots in Atlantic City, several cross-country adventures, and a true joy for holidays with the family and lest I forget taking care of his loving dog Snickers and cats Felix and Smokey. For his volunteer effort, he achieved the rank of coxswain with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary where he also performed vessel inspections and teaching boating safety courses.
Going forward, as he takes his place in heaven with Christ, his family enriched by his many blessings will endeavor to honor his memory by devoting themselves in faith and the everlasting pursuit of bringing joy to others.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 from 1:00pm-5:00pm, with a funeral home service at 4:30pm at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ.
