Ira W. "Bill" Hundley, 86, of Manahawkin, died at home on September 3, 2013. Bill was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended St. Patrick's Grammar School and High School. A member of "The Greatest Generation", Bill left high school at age 17, joined the Navy and served with distinction as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Following his discharge from military service, Bill went to work for Public Service Electric and Gas in Elizabeth retiring in 1988 after 40 years of service. Bill and his family resided in Elizabeth until 1976 when they moved to Spring Lake Heights. In 1997, Bill and his wife moved to Atlantic Hills in Manahawkin, New Jersey. Bill was an active member of St. Mary of the Pines Roman Catholic Church in Manahawkin; serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Minister to the homebound and in the Perpetual Adoration Ministry.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Ira W. and Margaret (nee Deegan) Hundley, his infant son in 1949, his brothers John and Thomas Hundley, and sister Mary McLevey. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Elizabeth Anne (nee Boyle) Hundley and six children; son James and his wife Virginia of Neptune, son William and his wife Magdalene of Manahawkin, daughter Betty Anne McKenna and her husband Michael of Freehold Township, son Daniel of Freehold Township, daughter Jane Hundley and her companion Chris Matthews of Wall Township and daughter Susan Fagan and her husband Thomas of Manahawkin; and 15 grandchildren; Jamie, Todd and Kali Hundley; Liam Hundley; Michael and his wife Allison, Moria, Patrick, Kara and Mae McKenna; Danny and Shawn Hundley; Colin, Brianne and Clare Fagan.
Bill will be remembered by all who knew him for his absolute love and devotion to his wife and family, his Catholic faith, Beloved Country, Yankee baseball and Notre Dame football. Sadly missed but never forgotten.
Calling hours will be Friday, Sept 6th from 4 until 8 PM at the Thos L Shinn Funeral Home 10 Hilliard Dr. Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Mass of the Christian Burial will be Saturday 11:AM at St. Mary of the Pines Catholic Church 100 Bishop Drive in Manahawkin 08050. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
