Jack, (John- though he was never called John) was born January 17th, 1969 in Philadelphia, PA to Charles and Nancy (Ross) Rechenberg.
He spent his early childhood in Morrisville, PA with his three older brothers, where he played many sports, winning a few “participation trophies” and even the prestigious Most Improved Bowler award.
After spending several summers aboard their house boat in Ship Bottom, his family moved permanently to North Beach, LBI- where it was said by his father that Jack spent more time in the water than out of it. It was here that he continued his love of boating, and spent his days surfing for the Southern Regional Surf Team, fishing, snorkeling, and even becoming PADI Dive certified at only thirteen years old.
His earliest jobs included working at Surf City 5&10, followed by a variety of odd jobs- none of which he loved quite as much as demoing boats at Merit Marina.Throughout it all, he worked for his father at Maaco Auto Body Shop & Painting, where he spent his formative years learning everything it took to run an auto body shop.
After a short but memorable stint at Fairleigh Dickinson University (the most notable story involving a pizza delivery car that Jack swears up and down was never really stolen but simply left in neutral to roll down a hill), Jack started running his own Maaco franchise- a role he carried through thick and thin for the rest of his life.
It was during the course of his work he had the misfortune of meeting the newly hired secretary, Andrea Lowe, who would eventually become his beloved wife. Together they traveled many places, sailed many seas, and moved to Florida and back- creating dinner parties, memories, and chaos wherever they voyaged. They then welcomed their two children, Delaney and Ethan, who shared in every step of their adventure.
Jack subjected his children to years’ worth of Jimmy Buffett music, Hemingway stories, and trips to Key West, much to their so-called dismay. But above all, he loved them fiercely and supported them in every possible way.
Jack has left here to grieve; his wife & partner for over 33 years Andrea (Lowe), his daughter Delaney Hope, his son Ethan John, mother Nancy (Ross), father Charles (wife Lorainne), brothers Chuck, Jimmy (wife Lori) and Tommy (wife Shannon), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, really great friends, and his beloved chessie Josie.
Please keep our Jack in your thoughts and prayers. He was an amazingly good and decent man who loved his family more than anything in the world- except, perhaps, his boat.
We will carry the weight of his absence in our hearts, always. After all, what is grief but the echo of love unspoken?
A funeral mass for Jack will take place at 10 am on Friday March 28,2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 4700 Long Beach Blvd, Brant Beach, NJ 08008.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Jack’s name be made to the Save the Manatee Club at savethemanatee.org
