John William Baldante

Surf City - John William Baldante (Bill), age 88, of Surf City passed away peacefully on

November 19, 2022. Bill was born on June 19, 1934 in the Bronx, NY to Giovanni Mario and

Rose Baldante. Along with his late wife, Roberta (Cvik) Baldante, he raised his four children in

Colonia, and eventually retired to Long Beach Island.

Bill grew up in Newark, where he met the love of his life Roberta in middle school and whom he

later wed in 1957. His love for sports carried him to Upsala College where he played football

and baseball, and made lifelong friends. His professional career led him to law school at New

York University where he practiced corporate insurance defense law and an eventual judgeship

in Woodbridge Township. When Bill wasn’t working or spending his weekends at the Jersey

shore with his friends and family, you could always find him at the racetrack or flying south for

the winter months.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Roberta and daughter Laura Smith. He is survived by his

son John Baldante of Philadelphia, PA, Nancy Cleary and her husband Robert of Middletown,

NJ, and Robin Tilton and her husband John of Harvey Cedars, NJ. Bill is also survived by his

son in law Vincent Smith of Point Pleasant and sister Beverly DiMichele (Baldante) of

Sebastian, FL.; grandchildren: Nicholas and wife Alicia, Morgan, Sarah, Paris, Ryan, Keith and

wife Dominique, Kurt, Olivia, Johnny, and great-grandson Aidan. Bill was the dear brother of his

late sisters Adele Aguanno, Marie Federico and Virgina Polito.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial gathering on Tuesday November 29,

2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hillard Dr. Manahawkin, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated, payable to the Laura B. Smith Memorial Scholarship

Fund. Checks can be mailed to Vincent Smith at 2320 Bennett Ave. Point Pleasant.
