John was the beloved husband of 60 years to Angelina “Dolly”; dear father to his children; Angela (Nathaniel), Brenda, Jeanette (Tim), John (Kim), and the late Anna Marie; proud grandfather of Richard (Lauren), Kristina, Katie (Steven), Gabrielle, Thomas, and 6 great-grandchildren; brother of Mary (Martin) Durborrow and Kevin Cheeseman; Uncle to many nieces and nephews; and Papa to his beloved dog, Snuggles.
John was born and raised in Camden, NJ, where he met the love of his life, Angelina. They were childhood sweethearts who married and started their life together in Fairview, NJ, then settled in Cherry Hill where they raised their five children.
John was a hardworking family man that attended night classes to make his way up from Mechanic to Senior Maintenance Engineer, spending a long part of his career at the Delaware River Port Authority. John also proudly served as a Cherry Hill police officer. He spent his early years on a championship bowling team, enjoying woodworking, and taking family day trips. He enjoyed music, movies, and continuous learning. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
Despite the effects of this terrible disease, John continued to recognize his family, and kept everyone around him smiling and laughing. He will be greatly missed by many.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 14 from10:00am-12:00pm at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home at 10 Hilliard Drive in Manahawkin, NJ.
