John F. Sherman, 79, of Manahawkin, New Jersey (but Beach Haven in his heart) died peacefully at his home surrounded by family.
Jay was born on October 4, 1945 in Philadelphia to John and Rosemary Sherman. He was a proud husband, son, father, brother, Poppy, uncle, and friend.
For someone who didn't love school, he sure spent plenty of time in different ones…
From Beach Haven School to Saint Mary’s Academy in Florida, then back to Beach Haven School. Next up was Southern Regional High School. And then, finally, he graduated from Lenape High School, class of 1965. He was a proud alumni of Saint Joes in Philadelphia. THWND.
Jay was a devoted but true rascal of a brother to Carole, Sandy (Charles), Rodee (John), Lynnie, Randall, and Kimmy. They fought like any normal siblings (sometimes with teeth), but there was nothing they wouldn't do for each other, including delivering cash to the Medford Lakes precinct under the cloak of darkness (allegedly one time only).
He launched his incredibly successful sales career as a door-to-door Bible salesman for Nelson Publishing Company out west.
Realizing his potential, he then spent the bulk of his career working as a healthcare executive at US Healthcare, Cigna, Blue Cross, Qualmed, and Oxford, to name a few.
The summer of 1962 proved to be a pivotal moment in Jay’s life when he met his Victorine (at the time she was just Mike Wynne’s little sister).
In spite of Jim Wynne’s initial protests, he spent forty-four years married to the love of his life.
Their love gave us each other: Megan/Mimi, Katie, Casey, and Kelly.
As a family, we started out in Medford Lakes, NJ, then moved to Glenelg, Maryland to Agoura Hills, California and then back again to New Jersey: Medford and Beach Haven.
A lifelong beach kid, Beach Haven was always a big part of Dad’s heart, and he instilled that love in us, his children.
We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his mother, father, step-father (Ronald King), little sisters (Sandy and Lynnie), and many cherished friends and loved ones.
Jay is survived by his wife, Vicki; his siblings, Carole Trakamis, Rodee Walsh, Randall Provoost, and Kim Daly; his children, Megan Curtis, Kate Moran (Bob), Casey Sherman (Staci), and Kelly Cline (Dominic); many wonderful nieces and nephews, and ten grandchildren: Alexa, Jilly, Cammie, RJ, Brady, Crew, Nolan, Piper, Tully, and Andie.

Though he was a man of few words, a frequent question of his was, “What are you reading?” We couldn't possibly deny the level of importance he placed upon his books.
A memorial service for Jay will be held Monday, August 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Remembrances from his family at 12.
