Joseph L. Lanza Sr.
June 10, 1918 – July 5, 2018
Joseph Lanza, 100, of Brigantine, passed away peacefully at the home of his son Joey, on Thursday, July 7th, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 10, 1918, in West Orange, N.J. Joseph was predeceased by his father Anthony, mother Martinella and his beloved wife of 56 years, Lena DelConte Lanza. He and his family then moved to Westfield and later Scotch Plains. After retiring in 1983 he and Lena relocated to Barefoot Bay, Florida and then moved to Sun City West, Arizona.
He is survived by his son, Anthony, of Brigantine, and his companion, Celeste, his son John (Rudy), and daughter-in-law, Brenda, of Fort Meyers, Florida, son Joey and daughter-in-law, Maria, of Whitehouse Station, N.J. His seven grandchildren were the apples of his eye, Jay, Kristy, Christopher, Emily, Erica, Joseph III, and Katrina. Equally loved were his great grandchildren, Tyson, Dean, Johanna, Nicky, Katie, Adriana, and Johnny.
Joseph had a tremendous faith in God that he openly shared with everyone with whom he came in contact. When asked what he attributed his long life to, he responded, "Don't leave God out of the equation, and always try to smile no matter what." He truly left a legacy to so many of us.
His passion for sports and ability to rattle off numerous stats, were contagious and incredible. Dad was full of love, life, faith, and family. He lived his life to the fullest, culminating with a joyous 100th birthday celebration just weeks ago.
Dad, Pop, Papa Joe, we love you very much, you will be missed tremendously, and you will forever remain in our hearts.

Marce and I had the privilege of meeting Rudy’s father shortly before his 100th birthday. The warmth, love and pride shared among Brenda, Rudy and his dad left a memorable impression on us. Truly, there is nothing like family!

It was my delight to meet Mr. Lanza on a few occasions when he would be visiting our church with his son Joe. How nice it always was to spend a few moments with him chatting abut his family and the service. It was a pleasure to know him and be a little part of his life during his 100 years here on earth.
