Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of the late Neil and Catherine (nee Daniels) Ward.
Kevin was a 1976 graduate of St. Mary’s of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth, NJ. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1977-1981. He was a proud plankowner of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and also served on the USS Merrill.
He retired from Verizon as a Construction Splicer after 25+ years. He most recently worked part time at the ShopRite in Manahawkin and was a proud member and volunteer at the American Legion Post 232 in Barnegat. He was also a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 81 in Lacey Township.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Pines in Manahawkin. He was a devoted New York Mets fan. In the summers he loved sitting by the pool and feeding the birds in his yard and he was happiest when he was spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Theresa (nee Mulhearn) Ward, and they would have celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on April 19th. He was the devoted father to his children Kevin Dillon and his wife Lindsay (nee D’Andrea) Ward, Dennis Joseph and his spouse Julian López, and Kaitlyn Theresa. His three beautiful grandchildren Michael Cornelius, Elizabeth Carmela Rae, and Sean Steven. His loving siblings, Peg of Piscataway, Brian and his wife Debra of Islin, and Robert and his wife Mary of Melbourne Beach, FL. His father in law, Michael J. Mulhearn. His brothers and sisters in-law, Patricia Sciscione, Donna Mulhearn, Maureen and Anthony Labrutto, Karen and Mike Gugulski, Angela Mulhearn and her partner Dave. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins and many great friends.
He is predeceased by his mother in-law Barbara Mulhearn, and sisters and brothers in-law Theresa Mulhearn, Michael Mulhearn, and Anthony Sciscione, and his loyal and loving pets, Izzy and Fluffy.
In lieu of flowers please consider sending any monetary donations to the Disabled American Veterans charity, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Kevin’s name.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 13th. 12:30 PM at St Mary of the Pines Church, Bishop Lane in Manahawkin NJ 08050.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Beachview Ave. in Manahawkin immediately following the Mass.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 12th from 5-9 at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home,10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin.
