June 9, 1940 – July 16, 2025
Martin Francis Glacken, known lovingly as Marty, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at the age of 85. The son of two Irish immigrants, he was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. There was no mistaking his deep love and pride of his hometown and Irish heritage. A butcher by trade, Marty worked for the US Department of Agriculture for more than 30 years.
Marty married Maura Walsh and moved to Glen Rock NJ, where they started their family. He was a devoted father to his sons, Kevin (wife Kelly) of Wayne, PA and Surf City NJ, and Richard of Madison, NJ. He was the proud grandfather of Owen, Brody, Charlie, Aidan, and Finn, who brought him endless joy and laughter. He is survived by his beloved sisters, Ann Davey and Kathleen Morrissey of Delray Beach FL, and his nephew, Christopher Davey, also of Delray Beach. He is predeceased by his wife Maura Glacken (nee Walsh) who passed away in 2003 and his nephew, Glenn Davey.
For more than 15 years, Marty shared a cherished companionship with Lynne Salmi of Surf City, whose friendship and love were a great comfort and blessing in his later years.
Marty loved God, his family, food and the US Marine Corps – in that order. His strong Catholic faith was a cornerstone of who he was. He was a “good guy” and will be remembered for many things, among which are his warm heart, love of family, spirit of generosity and the gift of forgiveness.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Marty’s life will be celebrated on Friday, July 25th with a funeral mass at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, on the corner of Long Beach Blvd and 13th Street in Surf City NJ. Friends and relatives are invited to gather in fellowship starting at 9am with the funeral mass to follow at 10am.
