Matthew V Pellegrino

January 26, 1993November 19, 2020

Matthew Vincent Pellegrino, age 27 from Shrewsbury, NJ passed away on November 19, 2020. Beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, and Uncle-to-be, Matthew’s highest values in his life were family, friendship, and loyalty. He displayed these values with the “Italian horn” he kept on his neck and keychain, the red rose and “family” tattoo that adorned his arm, and in his actions as a man that would show up at your house at all hours of the night when you needed it, and was never stingy with the words “I love you.”

He was an Eagle Scout, avid Eagles and Yankees fan and wanted the world to know they should “never bet the Jets.” He loved baseball and football, loved to work out at the gym, go crabbing, and spend time with the friends that he truly viewed as family.

Matthew loved doggy kisses and snuggles, especially from “Brea,” his 100-pound chocolate lab. He was always the life of the party who would light up a room with his million-dollar smile. He was always quick to wrap his arms around you and squeeze you with a big bear hug. He was never without the rosary beads in his backpack. Matt lived his life on the edge always searching for a belonging and a place to hang his hat. He finally found his place and is at peace with God, his family and friends, and all the Angels in heaven.

Matthew was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Alfred & Susan Pellegrino and Emil & Mary Cicchettti, his uncles, Vincent, Alfred & Bill and cousin, Gayle.

Matthew leaves behind his beloved parents, Patricia and Anthony, his loving brother and sister-in-law, Anthony Jr. and Colleen, his Great Aunt Rose, his aunts Gerri, Barbara, Carol, and his uncle Richard, as well as his many loving cousins, lifelong friends and his faithful companion, Brea.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in the near future.

Matthew was about to volunteer at the Barnegat Food Pantry, that is why his parent's chose that charity in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Matthew’s name to the Barnegat Food Pantry, PO Box 816, Barnegat, NJ 08005.

for pat and tony; the fact that matt chose to follow in his father's footsteps and join the shrewsbury volunteer first aid squad during his student and post h.s. days showed a willingness to help others and assist in his community's quality of life. for whatever rocks in the road confronted matt, his willingness to serve is a lasting rememberance of a young life taken too soon. my prayers and thoughts go with you. paul david roman, life member, shrewsbury first aid squad.

Dear Pat, Tony, Anthony, and Colleen,

We are so sorry to hear this news. When I saw Tony’s Facebook post, we were so truly shocked and saddened-so difficult to process. We know you must be going through the worst grief. Please know we are thinking and praying for you and your family at this challenging time.

I keep thinking about when Matthew was born and visiting you at Monmouth Medical. This beautiful baby boy-so precious and aware of the life and love already surrounding him. He left this world too soon. Be grateful for the life and love he brought into your lives for 27 years. It will never be enough. But, at the least, you had that.

Sending you much love,

Karen and Tony

My daughter and a freind were bike riding by Matt's house & being harassed by some neigborhood boys and Matt came running to shoo them, because that's the way he was, he cared. His neighborhood was aIso his family. I was so happy when he came to work with us, he was a quick study, quicker than me at that age, he didn't complain. He was strong yet had a gentleness about him, so many great qualities that make his leaving us so hard to understand.
There are no words that help but thankfully all our memories may.
My deepest Condolences and my love & prayers for you all.

I am so incredibly sorry to hear of Matt's passing. It was a privilege serving as his guidance counselor and I remember with such fondness our time together. Matt's beautiful spirit never wavered. I ran into him a few years after graduation and his spirit still shone. The love for his family was always evident as was your love for him-such a beautiful sight to behold. My every thought and prayer are with you and may God's love surround you.

To this day I remember meeting Matt and working out with him at the NRG gym. Working on his charger with him and just chatting it up. Every time I saw him around he was always smiling and knew everyone in the room. The world lost a beautiful soul. I love this family and you are all in my prayers.

Dear Tony, Pat and Anthony,

I am so saddened to hear of Matt's passing. I cannot imagine the sadness of losing someone so early, and my deepest condolences are with your family. I will forever cherish the memories of growing up with both Anthony and Matt, as well as the love and kindness you all showed me during countless days and nights playing in your backyard and home. Without any siblings of my own, Anthony and Matt were my two brothers 2 blocks away. Thinking about you all during this difficult time.

With much love,

Doug Peters Jr.
