Mildred, known to everyone as Milly, was born in North Arlington, New Jersey, moving to Nutley after marriage. Along with being a homemaker, Milly was gifted in fashion design, sewing, crocheting, knitting and crafting. She worked in Nutley’s Clothing Factory as a fashion designer and seamstress, designing and constructing women’s couture and ready-to-wear dresses and outfits. After the closing of the Clothing Factory, Milly continued throughout her lifetime to created beautiful clothing and custom knitwear. Her crocheted and knitted hats, sweaters, scarves, mittens, Christmas stockings, booties, blankets, and infant outfits were for many decades distributed to all of her family members, friends, and neighbors.
After her husband’s passing, Milly located to Leisure Village West and continued to handcraft thousands of winter hats and booties which she donated to charitable organizations, such as Kevin’s Kids in Manchester, Ocean County Meals-on-Wheels, and homeless shelters, among others.
Additionally, Milly was a gourmet cook, and her homemade Italian pastas and “Feast of the Seven Fishes” Italian Christmas Eve dishes were valued contributions to yearly family festivities.
Mildred was predeceased by her beautiful nine-year-old daughter, Claire Rose, her parents, Peter Witter and Margaret Masotas Witter, her brother and sister-in-law, John and Dorothy Witter, her sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and James Bello and her nephew, James Andrew Bello.
