Olev Allikmaa, Sr., went to heaven to dance with his beloved Ana early Saturday morning, March 19, 2011. Olev was born on December 25,1938 in Kuressaare, Estonia. He grew up in Germany during the war with his family. He was a gymnast on the pre-Olympic men's team, played volleyball, and was an avid soccer player. He met and then married Ana in 1960. In 1962, they boarded a plane and headed to the states. Olev settled in Philadelphia with his wife, Ana . There he worked as a machinist and started his family. In 1967, they moved to Manahawkin where he was an active member of the community. In the 70's, he helped start a men's soccer league, coached youth soccer, was one of the founders of the Stafford Soccer Club, was part of the effort to create space for soccer fields for the children in the community, and was a member of the Lion's Club for over 30 years.
Olev was predeceased by his wife, Ana in 2009. Survived by a brother, Endel and wife Linda in Estonia and his sister, Maria in Germany, and extended family in Philadelphia and Europe; daughter, Adrienne Gilman, husband Douglas; son, Olev Allikmaa Jr., wife Allison, Manahawkin; grandchildren, Aaron, Ayla & Aedan Gilman, Amanda & Eric Allikmaa, and Kelly & Jennifer Fay. Olev and Ana enjoyed dancing, laughing, and traveling. He was kind, gentle, and admired by many for his strength, work ethic and volunteer projects. Pop, your family and friends will ALWAYS remember you. You're a CLASS ACT, and will be greatly missed.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Thursday, 11:00AM at St. Mary of The Pines Church 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ. Burial will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery , Manahawkin, NJ.
