Philip F. Smith, 71, of Manahawkin, NJ, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, after a year of unimaginable challenges and remarkable courage through his fight against cancer. He was surrounded by family and loved ones during every moment.
Philip was born on January 24th, 1954 in New Brunswick, NJ at St. Peter’s Hospital to parents Dolores M. Smith (Tormey) and Philip L. Smith.
He grew up playing many sports, including football, baseball, and wrestling, with football always being his favorite. After earning his degree from Middlesex Community College, Philip later worked for Bristol Myers Squibb where he dedicated well over 20 years to pharmaceutical research and development.
Philip was an avid sports fan and could always be found in his head to toe Jets gear cheering for the New York Jets as well as many baseball teams including the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles. He loved watching games, following horse races, and spending time in Atlantic City, where he enjoyed playing blackjack and taking in the energy of the casino.
He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and kind heart - and for his bright blue eyes that could light up any room. Philip never said no to lending a helping hand and was known for his big personality, loud laugh, and unwavering love for those around him. Above all, he was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and spoke about them often, always sharing their accomplishments with a smile. Philip was a dedicated dad and a loyal brother, son and friend. Although he will be missed deeply, he will forever be remembered.
Philip is survived by his loving daughters, Kimberly Smith and Lynette Hirsch (Gary), his sisters, Patricia Demary (Francis), Colleen Leifer (Mark), his brother Brendan Smith (Jackie), 5 grandchildren, Rebekah, Isabelle, Bethany, Aubrianna and Kaleb, as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and his granddog, Callie.
