
Phyllis Peggine Romano of Loveladies NJ joined her heavenly Father suddenly and peacefully on the afternoon of January 12, 2014. She was born on 2/17/1918 to Mary and Paul Spinelli in NYC, the third of 4 children - Mary, Vincent and Carrie, all of whom predeceased her. She graduated Julia Richmond High School, attended business administration courses at CCNY, but left her studies upon the death of her father to support her family as a court stenographer. She resided in Manhattan until her marriage to Frank R Romano, Sr on June 29, 1941 who served in the South Pacific during WWII from almost immediately after their wedding until 1945. Upon his return they moved to Dunellen NJ for Frank's medical and surgical practice and as their family grew, relocated to Plainfield, NJ. In 1990, they retired to their summer home in Loveladies, LBI NJ. She was a devout Roman Catholic, an ordained third order secular Franciscan of St Francis Assisi, and a Eucharistic minister.
Phyllis was active in many areas of community service. She served as president of the Union county Medical society auxiliary, NJS medical society auxiliary, Muhlenberg Hospital Regional Center auxiliary, American Society of Abdominal Surgeons auxiliary, and the LBI chapter of the AARP. For her many years of service, she was designated a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary club of Dunellen. She received the Somerset County Service Award for coordinating the radio program WORW "Let's Talk About It". Phyllis did nothing halfheartedly. She was known to all for her indomitable spirit, her commitment to everything she did, and her fierce devotion to everyone she loved.
She now joins her parent, siblings, daughter Paula Denise, and he husband of 58 years, Frank who predeceased her on January 7, 1999. She is survived by her daughter Dr. Patricia Romano and her husband, Dr. Alfio Raciti, sons Dr. Frank Romano Jr and his wife Diane, and Dr. Paul D Romano and his wife Stacey. Her grandchildren include Dr. Patricia Marie Raciti and her husband Brian DeCenzo, Dr. Peter Romano and his wife Merri-Winston, Christina Romano, Katherine Romano and her fiance Rob Sanabria, John Romano and his fiancée Jennifer, Jessica Blau and her husband Justin Vona, Travis Blau as well as great-grandchildren Reeves Anne Romano and Marshall Benjamin Romano. We were blessed to have had her in our lives for so long - she will be deeply missed.
The viewing will be in St Thomas of Villanova Chruch in Surf City from 9am -10 am on January 16 followed immediately by with a secular mass.
