Reginald Raban III

Raban, Reginald “Reg” James III, a 50-year resident of Long Beach Island and beloved husband of Gail Raban (née Illian), passed away peacefully on the evening of October 10, 2024 at age 78 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Camden, NJ on December 15, 1945, Reg was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Reginald J. Raban II and Doris (née Sampler) Raban of Cherry Hill, NJ. He is survived by his wife, Gail, and his children Jennifer L. Raban of Red Bank, NJ, and James (Kate) S. Raban of Manahawkin, NJ. Reg also leaves behind two beloved grandchildren, Josie and Michael, as well as his siblings Lynn Palmer of Marlton, NJ, Gale Raban of Key Largo, FL and Jane (Dick) McEvoy of Newtown, CT.

Reg graduated from the University of North Carolina and Rutgers Law School. He began his legal career as a Deputy Attorney General in the NJ Department of Transportation where he met the love of his life, Gail Illian. They married and moved to Long Beach Island, where Reg had spent his childhood summers. They decided this is where they wanted to start a family. Reg then established his law office, where he practiced for over 40 years.

Reg quickly became sought after for his legal expertise as well as for his wisdom, kindness and dry wit. Reg was respected by all who knew him. He was known for his calming presence, optimistic outlook and sound advice.

Reg was often described as the nicest, most even-keeled man, who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. His open-mindedness and gracious demeanor allowed him to make meaningful connections with many different types of people. He loved his family deeply, enjoyed fun and quirky music, and a good book.

Reg’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 29th at Saint Francis Church in Brant Beach beginning at 10:00am with a mass to follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcome in his memory to Magee Rehab Hospital, 1513 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
