With deep sadness and immense love, we announce the passing of Richard Edward Bush at the age of 79. A resident of Manahawkin, NJ, Richie passed away peacefully in his favorite chair in the home he built and cherished for 31 years.
Richie was born in Middlesex, NJ, to his devoted parents, Edward and Mabel Bush, and was the older brother to his sister, Doreen. Richie's childhood in Middlesex was marked by a passion for athletics, particularly baseball, which led him to pitch at Grand Canyon College before he was called to service during the Vietnam War.
Richie was drafted into the Army at age 21 and served from 1966 to 1968. Following his military service, Richie pursued various jobs before finding his calling as a police officer at the Berkeley Township Police Department. There, he dedicated 32 years to serving his community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Richie's love for baseball was a cornerstone of his life. He brought this passion to his community, taking pride in coaching his children and the Stafford Stingrays softball team. He was also an avid poker player and relished the telling of a good story.
The heart of Richie's world was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Linda Bush, his six children, Renee Hadam, Jessica Bush, Nicole Nelligan, Kacey Hamlin, Michael Bush, and Jackman Bush, their spouses, his three grandchildren, Drew Jordan, Haley Jordan, and Briggs Hamlin, and his sister Doreen Bush Deneau.
A dependable husband and father, Richie's legacy is one of unwavering love, loyalty, and resilience. His wife and children are profoundly grateful for the life they shared with him and will hold his memory close forever.
We invite friends, family, and community members to celebrate Richie's life at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home, located at 10 Hilliard Drive Manahawkin, NJ 08050, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 4 pm. Friends and family are invited to join us at Calloway’s in West Creek following the service.
