Dick proudly served in the Army Reserves from 1958-1964. He was an accountant for Hoechst Celanese for many years. He was a member of Metuchen First Presbyterian Church in Metuchen for 50 years. After moving to Long Beach Township, he became a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Dick also was a proud friend of Bill W for 35 years.
Dick enjoyed collecting clocks, making sure each of his children had a special clock. He was an avid gardener, competing with his neighbor Ed, to see who grew the best tomatoes. For years he would meet his neighbors, Jack and Bruce, at the beach each day to snooze, swim and read. Whenever he would have guests at his home, he enjoyed taking them to the beach, yard sales, playing UNO and cooking. He was the drip sandcastle master, teaching all the children the technique. He enjoyed traveling, especially winters in Key Colony Beach, FL and Port Aransas, TX.
During the past year he enjoyed attending the wonderful program at Town Square at the Jersey Shore. His family was very important to him, especially the times they spent together. His family would like to thank the doctors and nurses that took wonderful care of him and for the kindness shown to him during his past few years with dementia.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15th at 11:00am at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 5800 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
