

Robert Henry Pietsch, 89, of Little Egg Harbor, formerly of Lodi, died peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday March 14th. He was born in 1935 in New York City, the son of Elwood and Bridget (McDonnell). Before Bob retired in 1997, he was a design engineer for many years, then moving on as an instructor at the Bergen County Police and Fire Academy, and finally as a Sheriff’s Sergeant at the Bergen County Jail Annex in Hackensack. He served his country during the Korean War as well as the Lodi community as a volunteer firefighter. Once retired, he enjoyed fishing and crabbing off the backyard bulkhead, and spending time with family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Joann (Basile), his sons Robert and wife Antje of Florida, Paul of California, Joey of Hawthorne, Chris and wife Danielle of Little Egg Harbor, and his daughter Keri and husband Jeff of Little Egg Harbor. He was blessed with grandchildren Robert, Kevin, Brian and wife Brittany, Sophia, Alyssa, Luke and Dillon, and great grandchildren Mason, Charleigh, Kodi and Lunabelle, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Paul, sisters Evelyn and Anna and grandson Cody.
The family would like to send special thanks to Bob’s niece Liz Keating for all her help.
In lieu of flowers, the Pietsch family supports St Jude’s Children's Hospital and donations can be made in Bob’s name.
A visitation for Robert will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Thos. L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050, followed by a religious ceremony from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
