Born on April 2, 1935, in Manhattan, New York, Teresa was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Kocian) Zuvich. She grew up in the Chelsea section of Manhattan before raising her own family with her husband, Albert, in Staten Island, New York. They moved to New Jersey in 2007.
Teresa worked as a secretary before her marriage in 1956. After raising her children, she fulfilled a life-long dream of going to college to study nursing. At the age of 50, she became a registered nurse and started her nursing career at Staten Island University Hospital. The majority of her time there was on the postpartum unit where she passionately assisted new mothers and babies with her nurturing disposition, kindness and wisdom.
After their retirements, Teresa and Al travelled internationally and eventually settled into the status of “snow-birds”, spending half the year in Naples, Florida. They enjoyed their time in Naples immensely, attending outdoor concerts, viewing beautiful sunsets and spending time with good friends.
Teresa was a creative and artistic person. She crocheted her entire life, making beautiful blankets for those she loved and every baby she was remotely connected to. She took up oil painting in the 1970s and her home was adorned with countless works of art. In the 1990s she took a quilting course and found her passion. She spent the rest of her life enjoying the precision of intricate quilting. She joined quilting groups wherever she lived and was always learning something new. Teresa was also a fabulous cook, always trying new recipes, replicating dishes she had in restaurants and delighting her family with long-time favorites.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Albert; her children, Thomas (Francesca), Ann Louise Bastian, Laura Caputo (Michael) and daughter-in-law Laura De Quinzio; her brother-in law, Bill Collins, her sister-in-law Betty Zuvich, her brother Anthony Zuvich, her sisters Kay Geier, Ann McDonnell (Frank), and Regina Zuvich (Karen MacCauley). Teresa also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Alexander, Catherine (Michael), Joseph (Jaqueline), Molly, Rachel (Douglas), Kate, Joshua and Matthew, a great grandchild, Lincoln and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, extended family, and friends. Teresa was predeceased by her brother, Peter Zuvich, her sister Mary Collins, and her son Stephen.
