Virgil "Joe" Joseph passed away January 5, 2012. Born and raised in Kokomo, IN, he graduated from Kokomo High School in 1959. Joe enlisted in the US Army where he learned electronics and later taught them at Ft. Monmouth. After receiving an honorable discharge with the rank of SP5/E5, he worked for Federal Electric Corp. and was assigned to SAC Headquarters in Omaha, Neb. As a field engineer on the early warning radar systems and remained on site as a specialist and instructor for military personnel. He later went to work for Philco-Ford, in Texas, assigned to the NASA site in charge of the Gemini Missions Operations Support Lab. Joe maintained, installed and tested all new devices built by Philco to be used on the missions. He then worked for various electronic corps. In Chicago, NYC, and Boston before settling in NJ and working for Digital Equipment in NY City and Cherry Hill.
After retiring in 1987 He began working for the family business , Roxie's Liquors store in Manahawkin, until 2010. Joe enjoyed all sports, was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, but golf was his passion. He learned to play by caddying as a teenager. He was a good friend to all who knew him . Always a smile, a good joke and a great laugh. He is very sadly missed. Joe was a third degree Knight of Columbus, a past senior member of the LBI fishing club for over 25 years and a parishioner of St. Francis Church in Brandt Beach.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of almost 30 years, Denise; a stepson, Christopher William Joseph and his granddaughters, Amanda and Krystyn; daughter and her husband, Carrie A. and Joe Adragna and grandchildren, Theresa and Michael; his mother and father in law, Beatrice and Daniel Johnson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Two Masses will be said in Joe's memory at St. Francis Church , Monday, March 12, at 9:00 AM and Friday, April 13, his birthday, at 9:00AM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
