Bill grew up in Munhall, Pennsylvania, southeast of Pittsburgh, the son of
Arnold and Dorothy Vogt. He excelled in sports. As a kid, Bill played in the
Little League World Series, his batting lineup earning the affectionate nickname
“Murderer’s Row” due to their mighty bats. Bill went on to play center for the
1961 Division II Champion West Virginia Wesleyan University football team that
was inducted into the Wesleyan Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was
predeceased by his beloved wife of 12 years, Janet, mother of Dave, Pam and
Doug, who died in 1976. He was also predeceased by his beloved second wife
of 29 years, Pat, mother of Pam, Ted and Tom, who died in 2006. Bill and Pat
raised their combined family in Bridgewater, NJ. They began spending
summers on LBI in the early 1980s, before moving to Surf City in 1999.
Bill was Vice President of the Tire Dealers Supply Division of Somerset Tire
Service (STS). He started with STS in its infancy and helped grow the company
to one of the leading tire companies of the northeastern US.
Bill was an active member of the Surf City Yacht Club for over thirty years. He is
a veteran of the US Army. Bill enjoyed golfing, boating, walks, his daily
newspaper, and spending time with friends from all parts of his life. In recent
years, he has enjoyed sunny winters in Naples, Florida, with dear friends, old
and new. Bill was a “people person.” Without a doubt, his greatest joy was
being “Dad” and “Pop pop” to his children and grandchildren.
