Services for Leila Sulkes are scheduled for Sunday, February 16, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, New Jersey. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, New Jersey.
Born in Brookyn, New York, Mrs. Sulkes was a resident of Freehold, New Jersey.
Leila is survived by her husband, Martin of 59 years; son, Marc and his wife Marilyn of San Diego, California; daughter, Karen and her husband Eric Erz of Lucas, Texas; sister Rita Schussheim of Mason, Ohio; and 5 granddogs.
Leila was a retired schoolteacher, who brought her love of books and learning to the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Over 50 years, she served the organization in many ways, including president, membership vice-president, and book sale chair. In 2000, a scholarship was created in her honor, funded by proceeds of the annual used book sale that was her pride and joy.
Leila and Marty, her husband of 59 years, were avid world travelers, visiting at least 55 countries and every US state. She led an active life which included volunteering for charities such as Open Door and ushering at the George Street Playhouse and Two Rivers Theater.

The period of mourning will be observed at the Sulkes residence, Sunday 7:30-9:30 pm, Monday 1:00-5:00 pm, and Tuesday 6:00-9:00 pm.
