Tony was born to Anthony and Antoinette Marciano on September 30, 1935 in Mount Vernon, New York, the second of three children; older sister “Chubby” and younger brother Ralph. From an early age, Ton’s compassionate and caring nature was revealed in the special care he gave to his epileptic sister and his younger baby brother. Everyone relied on “My Junior” as a source of comfort and support when things were hard.
As Tony got older, his natural sports talent emerged as the varsity football ace at Archbishop Stepinac High School, where he played both offense and defense. In 1951 he was recruited by Horace Mann but turned them down because of family commitments and instead transferred to AB Davis HS in Mount Vernon, NY where he cracked three ribs to end his football days.
In 1956, Ton enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia where he spent two years as a charm school instructor. Here he honed his lifelong craft of fixing and repairing any machine, skills he later translated to his appliance repair business in Rockland County, NY.
In 1958, after discharge from the Army, Tony enrolled in the Naval Reserves, raising a family in upstate NY with his wife Joan and two treasured sons Richard and Todd. And when a tragic car accident claimed the life of Richard, his eldest son, Ton’s crisis of faith compelled some major changes to his life.
In November 1982, Ton married Arlene Derison, converting to Judaism, and became the father of two young girls, Leslie and Adriene. His addition to the family changed three people’s lives and brought an abundance of love and devotion where he won the hearts and minds of these three women.
Tony spent the rest of his life bringing love and laughter to those around him. His ever-present whistle and his unique Ton-isms made him a source of overwhelming joy. He was one of the most caring and genuine people who truly thought about, and worried about, everyone he loved. To have his love shine your way was such a special and unique thing. And with Ton, his love was not discriminate, for he brought happiness and comfort to everyone’s path he crossed.
Tony leaves behind a growing family that will miss him every day. From his son Todd (and Sandy) Marciano, his daughter Leslie (and Tom) Tevlin and his daughter Adriene Pernice; his grandchildren Richard (and Kelsey) Marciano, Adison (and Danielle) Marciano and Bari Pernice (and Zach Griffy). And the latest addition, his fourth great-grandchild, namesake Liam Anthony as well as great-grandchildren Ethan, Liana and Wesley Marciano.
Tony chose to be cremated and declined a more formal memorial, instead there will be an intimate gathering in Monroe on Saturday, November 18th from 12P – 5P.
