She was a beloved friend and "aunt" to many extended families. She was a graduate of Newark Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. Thereafter, she pursued higher education by obtaining her Bachelors in nursing from Fairleigh Dickinson University and her Master of Arts in nursing from New York University. From U. M. D. N. J., she achieved a post-graduate certification. Her area of expertise was gerontology.
In 1972, she made aliyah to Israel where she worked until 1974. During the Yom Kippur War, she served as a nurse on the front lines. She also has Israeli citizenship.
Upon returning to the states, she continued working as a nurse, but also volunteered for the Jewish Agency, assisting with the formation of a group of health care professionals seeking to make aliyah to Israel. The agency held conference enabling an international audience to learn to combine their professional skills and acquire a cultural / societal experience.
Barbara's work experience encompassed a vast array of specialties from neurology to gerontology but she continued to serve the Jewish community in many volunteer roles. She will be remembered as a consistent philanthropist to many organizations, being generous in donations and spirit.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, New Jersey 07726 immediately followed by a committal service at 12:45 PM at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin (Woodbridge), New Jersey 08830.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to the Jewish National Fund - Trees for Israel (https://usa.jnf.org/jnf-tree-planting-center/); and the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org).
There will be no public shiva.
