
Bernard Katzanek passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in Boynton Beach, Florida, at the age of 94. Born on September 10, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to Abraham (“Kibbee”) and Golda (“Gussie”), Bernard lived a life filled with compassion, generosity, and a deep love for family.
In 1953, Bernard married the love of his life, Rita. Together, they shared more than fifty wonderful years of marriage and built a beautiful family. Bernard was a caring brother to the late Beverly Kantner, a devoted father of two children, Stuart Katzanek (Sharon) and Janis Ventre (Roy), a proud grandfather to four adoring grandchildren — Kate Rattner (David), April Trus (Andy), Melissa Stefko (Chris), and Scott Ventre (Jessica), a loving great-grandfather to Samantha, Carter, Joseph, Benjamin, Emma, Asher, Jack and Madison and a cherished friend to Frieda Behar.
Bernard’s love for design shaped his life and career. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, he continued his studies at the Pratt Institute, where he refined his exceptional skills as an industrial designer. His passion and vision were reflected in every piece he created, earning him respect and admiration for his unique and innovative work.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bernard proudly served his country in the United States Army, exemplifying dedication and courage. He was a true patriot who never lost his sense of duty and gratitude.
Bernard will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his artistic gifts, and his unwavering love for his family and friends. His warmth, kindness, and creative legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernard Katzanek’s memory to the Dementia Society of America, the American Brain Foundation or Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Funeral services for Bernard Katzanek will be held on Tuesday, July 15th at 10:00AM at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapel (44 Wilson Ave 527 N, Manalapan Township, NJ 07726). Friends and family may arrive at 9:15.
Burial to follow at Beth David Cemetery (300 Elmont Rd, Elmont, NY 11003).
The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Sharon and Stuart Katzanek, 9 Anthem Street, Monroe Township, NJ on Tuesday, July 15th from 7:00PM–10:00 PM and Wednesday, July 16th from 12:00PM–5:00PM and 7:00PM–10:00PM.
