Dave was born January 7, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, to Mildred and Abraham Sandel. Older brother to Maurice, Dave loved to play sports, run around his apartment complex with his cousins, and spend his summers at the lake scooping ice cream (a love for which he never outgrew). Despite humble beginnings, Dave was determined to live his life to the fullest. He graduated from the City College of New York and Stevens Institute of Technology, leading to a successful professional career at AT&T, Unix International, and Information Builders International. He traveled the world, from Europe to India to Japan. He loved his work, but he loved his family even more.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Jill; his daughters Carolyn (Jenn) and Jodie (Jason) from his prior marriage to Melissa; his stepsons Joe Cohen (Jaime) and Jonathan Cohen (Olivia); and his grandchildren Rachel, Eli, Evan, Ruth, Harry, and Max. He is predeceased in death by his brother Maurice, his son Jason, and his prior wife Marlene. A family man, he loved sharing great speeches about the importance of family, going on large family vacations, and of course buying ice cream for his grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday August 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ
Donations in memorium can be made to the Dave and Jason Sandel Memorial Camp Scholarship, a part of the Family Fund at The ARC Central Chesapeake Region. The scholarship was established by Dave and his family in honor of his son.
