Edward was born Aug. 23, 1938 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Barnett and Ruth Silverman. He previously resided in Rockaway and Columbus, N.J.
Edward worked for Bell Labs as an electrical engineer and eventually specialized in investigating telephone-building fires and developing battery back-up systems. He was also a special officer for the Rockaway Township Police, where he assisted with routine desk work and patrol. He could be found most Thursday evenings serving as a court officer.
He was also a past master and 50-year member of Hancock-Dirigo-Adelphi Lodge #23, F&AM in New York City.
Edward was an active member of White Meadow Temple, Rockaway, N.J. and served as president of the Men’s Club and oversaw security. He has been an active member of Ahavat Olam , Howell, N.J. for over 10 years.
Edward was an amateur photographer and documented special events for his family and friends. He enjoyed working with his hands and staying on top of new technology.
Edward is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara Silverman; his daughters Francine Balling (Joshua) and Alexis Silverman; and Barbara's daughters Ann Wolf (Randolph), Stacy Dersh, and Maura Dersh; his grandchildren Maya Balling, Shemer Silverman Kalech, Maytav Silverman Kalech and Osher Silverman Kalech; and Barbara's grandchildren Tamara Gross (Andrew), Amanda Wolf and Kelsey Wolf.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Myra Silverman, in 2000; his sister, Phyllis Kantrowitz; and granddaughter, Rachel Balling.
A graveside service will be held at.1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 at New Montefiore Cemetery, 1180 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11704 immediately followed by a burial.
Shiva will be observed at the Silverman residence following the burial as well as on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with minyan at 7 p.m.
