Evelyn was born on May 26, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY. She was the eldest child of Sadie and Zelich “Jack” Cohen. She met the love of her life at the Hebrew Education Society after school program during high school. She married Abe, another Cohen in 1950 and were inseparable for 71 years.
Evelyn became a dental assistant out of high school and worked outside the home until 1968. They raised Amy and Karen in Flushing and Howard Beach, NY. Every summer for ten years, the family went to Forest Glen bungalow colony where she particularly enjoyed acting in musicals, often written by Abe.
In the 80s, Evelyn and Abe moved to Concordia in Monroe Township, New Jersey. They became snow birds, then permanent residents to Del Ray Beach, FL. They spent a couple of years in Boca Raton before Abe passed, and Evelyn moved to Sonoma County three and a half years ago to be near Amy and Chris.
In New Jersey and Florida, Evelyn played golf, bridge, and participated in community theatre. She loved music, singing, Broadway shows, and dining out.
With all of their friends from Flushing, Forest Glen, Howard Beach, Concordia, and Palm Greens, Abe and Evelyn had an active, wonderful social life.
Evelyn was predeceased by her daughter Karin Cohen, her husband Abraham “Abe” Cohen, and her younger brothers David and Carl Cohen.
