

Fred Tunis, 81 of Manalapan, NJ passed away July 10, 2012 at the Manor Nursing Home, Freehold after a battle with brain cancer. Born on 9/12/1930 and raised in the Bronx, he and wife Barbara raised their family in Jackson Hts., NY and Old Bridge before moving to Covered Bridge in 1993. He had a long career as a salesman in the Garment Industry.
Fred was a proud former Marine who served on the USS Wooster during the Korean War. He was a member of the Marine Reserve and enjoyed volunteering for Toys for Tots during the holiday season. He was a member and Past master of Vigilante Lodge, F. & A.M. of NYC and a member & Past Commander of the Jewish War Veterans, Bronx, NY. He was an avid golfer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Lena Tunis. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara, his children: Andrea Miller and husband Eric of Marlboro, Glen Tunis and wife Laura of Jackson, Jodie Tunis of Hoboken and his beloved grandchildren: Shelby, Marissa and Zachary. Fred is also survived by his sister: Sondra Witlieb, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and many life-long friends.
Services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 12th at Sharon gardens, Valhalla, NY. The family will sit Shiva at the home of Andrea and Eric Miller, 65 Enclosure Drive, Morganville of Thursday from 4-8 pm, Friday from 1-6 pm and Sunday from 2-7 pm. Donations in Fred’s memory to the Toys for Tots Foundation would be appreciated.
