Mr. Solat was my high school chemistry teacher. I remember him so fondly for his kindness, good humor, and ability to connect with his students while teaching difficult material. He really stood out from all my teachers, and I remember him until this day. I’m grateful for the way he truly saw each of us as individuals and nurtured us through his teaching. He will be missed.

Mr. Solat was my chemistry teacher in 1998 and news of his passing really saddened me.  He was a master educator - a teacher who genuinely loved his subject and equally enjoyed giving it over.  He challenged us and we all grew to meet his expectations - willingly, happily, with a lot of sweating but with real pride in our accomplishments.  His warm smile and twinkle in his eyes were ever present - I don't remember him ever being in a bad mood all year long.  We loved his class, his lab, his cologne (!) and we were equally enamored by his consistency, commitment, respect and the high standards he set for himself and for us.  I still remember him warning us in lab that glass held over a bunsen burner will be hot and that every year one girl forgets that.  Well, that was me :).  He was a really wonderful person.  May his neshama have an aliya and may Hashem send you a true nechama.

My Solat was my Ad Bio teacher in 1979. I didn’t take chem the year before so the advanced level was a challenge; one that Mr. Solat thought I could grow from. It was a wonderful year. 
One of my daughters subsequently had Mr. Solat for Chem. When she told him that he taught her mother, Mr Solat responded - with his characteristic sense of humor. He said that when a student tells him that he taught her grandmother, it will be time for him to retire. 
May his memory be a blessing. May Hashem send the family a true Nechama.

Mr. Solat was my teacher and grand teacher as he taught my 7th grade science teacher chemistry when she was in Prospect Park!  Mr. Solat always had a twinkle in his eye and was so patient answering questions.  He really wanted to make sure we knew the material well and aced our chemistry regent exam. My name is Pnina Marciano Kanarek.  I was a student of Mr. Solat back in 1987, I believe.  He was a wonderful teacher.  Who would think that a teenager could love chemistry? But I did,  mostly because of my exceptional teacher.  I went on to study biology and chemistry in college and I'm now a pediatrician.  I cherish the fond memories of my days in Mr. Solat's class and remember his funny quips like,  "never buy your teeth through the mail," which he'd say if he ever had trouble tripping over words when speaking.  May his memory be for a blessing.

I was really into science as a child and Mr. Solat was amazing. I really enjoyed his class. I still clearly remember the lab/ classroom in Prospect Park Yeshiva, with the model of the human body on the side.
He was so genuine, an amazing teacher who cared so much about his students.
He's one of the few from high school that I have fond memories of.
He must have been an incredible Dad.
As time goes by I hope you can hold on to happy memories, and always remember that he is in a wonderful place now, earned by being a special person who cared deeply about other people.

Hi my name is pessie  Glueck I was a student of Mr solat in prospect park yeshiva. He was such a gentleman caring about his students .He always had a smile on his face My father was the president of the school and he would always say how he enjoyed talking to him .My father was a survivor so Mr solat always treated him with such respect and would tell my father how he admired him for surviving and staying religious and becoming successful and believing that every girl deserves an education. Mr solat will be missed  He should be a Gita bayta for his family and klal Yisrael

Addendum to my earlier post: He also taught us AP Bio. He was a treasure and will be sorely missed.

"Mr Solat" was my favorite teacher in HS (Prospect Park). He inspired me to pursue a career in a science field.  I majored in chemistry, and I found it easy, thanks to the strong foundation he provided. He kickstarted my entire career. He was a wonderful human being as well.  May he rest in peace.

Mr. Solat was my chemistry teacher in Prosepect Park YHS in 1983. He was an unbelievable teacher and very patient with all my questions. His class was the hardest one in high school because it was so professional and demanding. Yet, we learned a lot and enjoyed the subject as well. May his memory be a blessing.

I remember Mr. Solat as my most challenging High School teacher. He was dignified, straightforward, and didn’t tolerate any nonsense from his students; he was respected by all. Oh, how we studied to do well on his infamous ten question tests! If you earned his praise or his wonderful smile, you knew it was well deserved and was worth all the effort.
High school was a long time ago, and I can’t say I remember all of my teachers…. but Mr. Solat was unforgettable.

Hi. Mr Solat was our teacher in Prospect Park Yeshiva in 1986 & 1989. He taught us Earth Science & Chemistry. I think that our class may have been one of the only classes to have the privilege of having him twice. He was an excellent teacher, and I still remember the science that he taught me.  But he taught us so much more than the subject matter. He taught us so many life lessons, that we have incorporated into our lives, and the lives of our children and grandchildren.

I am so sorry for your loss. May the number of lives that Mr Solat touched, be a source of great comfort to the entire family!

Although I have been privileged to have many excellent science teachers, Mr. Solat was head and shoulders above the rest.  His never-ending patience and clarity was really crucial when learning the complex subjects of earth science and chemistry.  There were no dumb questions and no limit on the number of times that a question could be asked. Since I have two left hands, I was always nervous during labs that I would make some truly terrible mistake and just fail the course.  By the time I had Mr. Solat for a second year in a row, I knew that this was not consistent with his methodology.  I felt comfortable with myself and started to truly shine in lab.  

 Mr. Solat was completely unflappable and dealt with us in a truly dignified manner.  I remember how I debated with him about the candidates in an upcoming presidential election.  Although our views were very different, he encouraged the conversation and healthy disagreement.  He always encouraged us to educate ourselves more and more.   

He was truly larger than life.  We still discuss our memories of the class and his humor with fondness.  He made an everlasting impression on all his students.

He was a fair teacher - gave you a mark you deserved without judgement. He was straightforward and honest.

Mr. Solat was the best chemistry teacher! He made his classes so interesting and I will never forget him. He was always fair and really taught us the material in a way that we were able to understand  and enjoy!  I’ll never forget that after one of the exams, I felt he took off 3 points unnecessarily (I got in the 90’s but Mr. Solat always taught us to challenge ourselves and him)! Mr. Solat carefully reviewed my response again and gave me the points back!!! I remember feeling like he really cared and appreciated me and my hard work! I graduated from prospect park yeshiva high school in 2003. I have extremely fond memories of Dr Solat. He was an absolutely excellent teacher and was able to explain complicated topics  and make them so understandable. I remember doing especially well in chemistry even though it was not especially an interesting subject for me. He had a regal way about him and was beloved by all the students and he always smelled like good cologne:) he will be missed.

Dear Solat Family,
I have the fondest memories of our beloved Earth Science and Chemistry teacher. The clarity and devotion Mr. Solat had  to ensuring all students understood the complex material was inspiring. As a science teacher myself, I only wished I had reached out sooner to connect to Mr. Solat and thank him for inspiring my love of science and lab work. 
He was an excellent teacher and I have such warm memories of his care, devotion, good humor, and professionalism. His class was the highlight of my day.
I hope you find comfort in knowing that he was deeply admired and respected by his students.
