Henry E. Efrom was born on April 4, 1937 in the Bronx, NY. He first met his wife, Joan, when they were in kindergarten together. They met again in their 20s and were married for 52 years before her passing in 2012.
Henry attended Cooper Union where he received his Bachelors Degree in mechanical engineering followed by his Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University. He spent his entire career working for Con Ed where he put his professional engineering license to good use. In the 1960s he became one of the earliest computer programmers for Con Ed where he designed and scheduled the building of power substations throughout New York City.
Henry was very active with the Knights of Pythias, even serving in several leadership positions. He was an avid bowler and took up golf after he retired. He lived in Matawan, NJ for 36 years with his wife Joan where they raised their three daughters. He enjoyed nothing more than passing on all of his knowledge and interests to his “girls”. He loved coaching them in bowling when they were younger and helping them with their physics and calculus homework as they got older. On weekends in the fall he could be found ringing the cowbell in the stands of Matawan High School band performances. He got pure enjoyment spending time with his 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Henry was predeceased by his loving wife, Joan Hendelman Efrom. He is survived by his three daughters Fern Watts (Brian), Lynn Trackenberg (Andrew), Michele Hecht (Gordon), six grandchildren Charles Watts (Adriana), Philip Trackenberg (Gemma), Stacy Trackenberg (Mitchell Branan), Ryan Trackenberg, Adrienne Hecht, Kenneth Hecht, three great-grandchildren, brother Lawrence Efrom (Mary) and long-term companion Priscilla Greenwald.
