I live in the Washington DC area. Whenever Herb was in town we both loved to eat at a Chinese restaurant called the Peking Gourmet located in nearby Falls Church Virginia. 
There were hundreds of pictures on the walls featuring famous people who had eaten at the restaurant. People like President George Herbert Walker Bush, Mohammad Ali  and General/Secretary of State Colin Powell. When I would go there for dinner with Herb it was as if he was the most important person to ever have been a guest there. They treated him like royalty. He was pleasant to everyone who worked there, treated every employee like a long lost friend  and they in turn treated him like an American hero.  He was always down to earth and humble yet I think that they thought that he was a mysterious New York fat cat and treated him as such. To say that he was bigger than life would be an understatement.
Going to the Peking Gourmet with Herb was akin to going to a baseball game with Babe Ruth or a rock concert with Elvis Presley.   He was that revered but I was most impressed that he treated everyone down to the lowest busboy with respect and kindness all while kidding them along the way. Where I come from we call that a Mensh and that is who Herb was. He even told me that the hostess wanted to hang his picture on the wall but he demurred saying that his creditors might see it and he wouldn't know where to hide anymore which added intrigue to his legend.  And make no mistake, Herb Brier was, and still is, a legend in these parts. 

Such a good friend.  Always helping to move my business forward.  I will never forget the time I got to spend with Herb.  Travels to cabinet factories and functions with Herb were such a great adventure. ... always more fun getting there and back because of him.  I will miss him every day.

Herb was an unforgettable character that was always there for a laugh, advice, a story, and to be a friend. I was lucky to get to know him. Many times he was there to take my call and offer advice. I am truly sorrow for all those who knew him and the loss we will all share, but mostly thankful that all of us got to call him friend.
I will miss you Herb and my sympathies to your family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Herb when I was 18 over 40 years ago . We spent many days on road trips for business. Somehow it never felt like work. Our trips were always full of laughs .
I have a watch collection of over 75 watches because Herb got me hooked.  Herb  was more then  a friend to me . He was a mentor and a father figure.  There is a hole in my heart that will never be filled . My heart is heavy for the Brier family . There is no replacing a man like Herb. The fond memories and good times I shared with Herb and the Brier family will  always be treasured . May God welcome Herb home .

Herb is a special man.  I have known Herb for nearly 40 years . We have  shared so many stories, jokes , travels and fun times I know for me the void will be a big one... Fortunately I can call upon the memories to keep Herb alive in my heart forever.

I can only tell the family just how lucky I am to have known him. He was like a brother, a father, a co-worker and always my friend.  I trusted him, laughed with him, told stories with him and I learned that there will never be another Herb... so I will cling to the memories forever... I miss you already..
