He was born in the Bronx, where he lived before moving to Bayside, Queens.
Prior to retiring, Hy was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, where he worked for 35 years. Upon retiring, Hy and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Manalapan, New Jersey.
An Army veteran, he honorably served our country in both World War II and the Korean War. He was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans and the Kiss Lodge #185.
Surviving are his loving wife of 74 years, Evelyn; his children Alan Kassay and his wife Nancy of Yorktown Heights, NY, Gary Kassay and his wife Raella of Casper, WY, and predeceased by his daughter Judith Rubenstein in 2017, his grandchildren; Brett Rubenstein, Evan Kassay, Samantha Kassay, Jason Kassay and his wife Lisa and Julie Thorne and her husband Peter; and great-grandchildren; Noah, Abigail and Eliana Kassay and Sophie Thorne.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 11 AM at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Avenue, Manalapan, New Jersey.
