James “Jim” Frankenthaler, 89, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026. Born on April 24, 1937, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose intelligence, curiosity and quiet generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jim graduated from University of Buffalo with a degree in Economics and earned his MBA from New York University. He built a long and distinguished career on Wall Street as a financial analyst, beginning at Prescott and continuing at Invemed, Laidlaw Adams & Peck and W.R. Lazard. He later served as head of investor relations for Standard Microsystems Corporation before pivoting to information technology and capping his career at Ernst & Young.
A lifelong learner, Jim was an amateur artist, writer and poet with a thirst for knowledge that never dimmed. He read voraciously, kept up with every new idea and development, and took genuine interest in the lives, careers and happenings of everyone he loved. His advice — thoughtful, honest, and unfailingly spot on — was treasured by all.
Above all, Jim was a family man. He is survived by Ethel, his beloved wife of nearly 63 years; his three sons, Louis (Anat), Michael (Marci) and Douglas (Michelle); his seven cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Tal, Eliza, Sara, Adam and Ido; his “much younger” sister, Jan (John); and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his older brother, Buddy. Together with Buddy and Jan, Jim founded the annual Frankenthaler family reunion, a beloved tradition now carried on by the next generation.
Jim will be remembered for his wisdom, his wit, his devotion to Ethel and his family, and for the example he set — by word and by deed — of what it means to be a good person. He will be missed beyond measure.
