Jay Irwin Gleiberman, 81, of Jackson, NJ, passed away on March 27, 2025. Born in Peekskill, NY, Jay led a life full of passion, creativity, and love for his family, always embracing new adventures with an open heart and a warm smile.
Growing up, Jay moved frequently with his parents, Helen and Eli Gleiberman, and his sisters, June Blank and Sheila Baum, due to his father’s entrepreneurial spirit, living in various places across California, New York, and New Jersey. Despite the frequent changes, he developed a strong sense of family and adaptability. He attended NYIT before entering the workforce.
On December 14, 1963, Jay met the love of his life, Gloria, on a blind date. It was the beginning of a beautiful journey together. They married on December 12, 1964, and soon after, began building a life together in Brooklyn, NY. In 1970, they moved to Freehold, NJ, where they raised their two daughters, Jodi and Randi, and later settled in Jackson, NJ, in 2008.
Jay’s professional journey was as dynamic as his life. He started at the Hartford Insurance Company in 1963 before transitioning into the garment industry in 1966, where he became a buyer and later a skilled cutter in New York City's garment district. After 15 years in the industry, he decided to follow his creative passion and pursued photography.
In 1980, Jay began training in photography, and by 1983, he launched Jay Irwin Photography. For the next two decades, he dedicated himself to capturing life’s most precious moments at weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, Sweet 16s, and other special occasions. He had an innate talent for composing the perfect shot, ensuring each image told a beautiful story.
After retiring from photography, Jay embarked on a new adventure in 2001 when he joined Wegmans. Whether working in Cook's Nook, the cheese department, the greeting card aisle, or even handling balloons, he found joy in engaging with customers and brightening their day.
Beyond his professional life, Jay’s interests were vast—he adored theater, movies, reading, art, and interior design. He and Gloria shared a love for travel, cherishing the adventures they took together. However, his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was always his family.
He was a devoted husband to Gloria and a loving father to Jodi Nussbaum (married to Eric Nussbaum) and Randi Schoenfelder (married to Tom Schoenfelder). His love extended to his cherished grandchildren: Harrison Nussbaum, Jessica Fasano (married to Mark Fasano), Brianna Schoenfelder, and Gillian Schoenfelder, all of whom lovingly referred to him as 'Papa.'
Jay Irwin Gleiberman's legacy is one of kindness, creativity, and deep devotion to family. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered through the countless lives he touched and the beautiful memories he helped create.
